Bear watching is one of the most impressive nature experiences in Finland. Bear Centre offers the opportunity to observe wild bears safely and at very close range – sometimes only a few metres away. Bears visit the area regularly, and the probability of seeing a bear is high, around 80–95% depending on the season.
Bear watching takes place in the Bear Watching House, located about a 400-metre walk from Bear Centre. The path follows a firm forest track, making the walk easy and suitable for visitors of all fitness levels. The short walk leads you into a peaceful wilderness environment where you can observe wildlife safely and comfortably. We recommend weather-appropriate clothing and suitable outdoor footwear.
The house offers beautiful views of the surrounding wilderness, and large windows allow you to observe animals comfortably and safely from indoors. The building is designed for a pleasant wildlife-watching experience: it stays cool in summer with air conditioning if needed, and is heated during cooler seasons. The house also has several toilets and running water, ensuring a comfortable visit for all ages.
Bear watching is suitable for everyone interested in nature – there are no age or fitness restrictions. The experience can be enjoyed alone, with friends or as part of a group. The excursion is perfect for families, nature lovers, photographers, company groups and special celebrations.
You can choose between two options:
Bear Watching – Evening Trip
A few-hour experience where you can observe bear activity during the evening.
Bear Watching – Night Trip
An extended experience where you spend the night in the bears’ domain and observe wildlife throughout the evening, night and early morning.
Patience is the Key
Bears are wild animals and move according to their own instincts and natural rhythms. Sometimes a bear may appear on the very first night, while other times observing nature requires a little more patience.
Several bears visit the area each season, and on some evenings multiple bears may appear at the same time. In addition to bears, the area is regularly visited by 1–4 different wolverines as well as foxes. Occasionally the local wolf pack may also pass through the area, although seeing them requires a bit of luck.
Because bears are wild animals, we cannot guarantee a sighting on every trip. However, most visitors do see bears, and every evening spent in nature offers a unique experience.
