Summer wolverine photography at Bear Centre offers excellent opportunities to photograph the wolverine (Gulo gulo) in its natural wilderness habitat. The wolverine is one of Europe’s rarest and most difficult predators to photograph, and encountering it in the wild is a memorable experience for wildlife photographers.

Photography takes place from the same hides used for bear photography. The hides are located in a natural area where animals move freely throughout the entire photography area. The terrain in front of the hides remains natural and undisturbed, providing clean and authentic wilderness backgrounds for your photographs.

Depending on the hide, wolverines may approach as close as five metres, allowing photographers to work with a wide range of focal lengths. These short distances make it possible to capture both tight portraits and wider environmental images.

Wolverines move throughout the hide area, creating changing photographic situations and backgrounds during the night. Forest edges, open areas and natural terrain features provide varied opportunities for composition and behaviour photography.

Several individual wolverines live in the Bear Centre area, typically three to four animals, and they are seen regularly during the summer season. On average, wolverines are observed four to six times per week, making the area one of the most reliable places in Europe for photographing this elusive predator.

Northern summer nights offer extended shooting time and soft natural light, allowing photographers to capture a wide variety of situations throughout the evening and night.

In addition to wolverines, photographers often have opportunities to photograph brown bears, foxes and birds from the hides. Wolves require a little more luck, but they are occasionally seen. In 2024 a lynx was also photographed in the area.
